I still remember wondering how this could happen the second I heard Donald Trump was the President Elect for the United States. While yes, I knew there was nothing that could be done at this point, I still didn’t understand it.
Actually, I’ll be honest and say I still don’t understand. I don’t understand how someone could be elected as President who built his campaign off of hate, prejudice, racism, sexism and so much more. Let’s also not forget he has never held any political office before the point of his presidency.
Trump claimed he would support all United States citizens, including LGBTQ, and later as President, he bans all transgender people from serving in the military. My question for him is whether or not he knows what the “T” stands for in the group he said he would support? Who in America should be told they can’t serve in their country's military?
He says Mexicans bring nothing but rape, crime and illegal drugs into our country, but does he realize there are Mexicans who have immigrated to America and by saying things like that he’s offending their whole race and the background they come from? So much for that support, I see.
Shall we discuss all of the disgusting things he’s said about women? Tweeting about Rosie O’Donnell calling her “crude, rude, obnoxious and dumb” was absolutely uncalled for. But don’t worry, he covered it up by saying he liked her very much, aside from those small details of course. Good save, Trump.
Our President uses Twitter to bash people more than anybody I’ve ever met, and the lack of professionalism by doing so just baffles me. While yes, some of his tweets can be considered updates he’s giving before making any official announcement, I personally think he should spend a little less time on Twitter.
While I do not like Trump, I am not “just another liberal wanting to see him fail.” My wish is that Trump sees this isn’t a game, but that this is real life for all of us. The words he says hurt, the things he does will have repercussions that are probably much bigger than any others he has had in his life. I hope he does good for our country and good for all of our citizens.
I hope he thinks about all the minorities, LGBTQ, African Americans, Latinos and the many other people he may have once said unnecessarily rude things about while he makes his decisions. I hope he realizes the words he says will follow him, and I hope he realizes the decisions he makes will follow the rest of us as well for quite some time.
I’ll be open and honest when saying I am definitely not his biggest supporter. But I do support and want the best for our country, as well as all of the people living in it. As a citizen, I want the best for each and every one of us, and here’s to hoping things will turn out that way.
