Women's Rights: Gay Marriage and Abortion

It seems crazy that after all of this time and all of the ways that we have progressed as a country in the last eight years we still have to talk about women's rights and what women are allowed to do with their own bodies.

Society never tries to tell a man what he is allowed to do with his life but when a woman is deciding if she wants to have an abortion or marry another woman all hell breaks loose. Now, I will say up front. I am pro-choice and I am for gay marriage staying legal. Love is love. Marriage shouldn't be restricted based on the genders of the couple.

I am pro-choice because I do not believe that anyone should have the power to take away another person's choice to have a child or to not have a child. I don't know the woman's life and if it would be the best thing for her to have a child or not.

Adoption might not always be the best choice either – there are so many children who are in the foster system and have been given terrible lives because their parents did not want them and decided it would be best for the baby to be given to someone that they don't know to raise their child. Also, there is no certainty that the child might someday decide that he or she wants to track down their mother.

One of the issues that I have with people who are opposed to gay marriage is this: how does it affect you? Does it impact your daily life? How will two women or two men getting married change your life at all? It's astounding how after it became legal we are still fighting for it to stay legal.

I understand that people have differing opinions on these kinds of hot social issues, and you are entitled to your opinion, but what makes your opinion better than mine? To the people who use religion as justification as to why gay marriage should not be allowed or women should not be able to get an abortion – not everyone has the same religious beliefs as you, so therefore we shouldn't have to live our lives according to your standards.

Something that I found shocking is that there were a lot of women who were in opposition to the women's march that happened in D.C. this two weekends ago. I will never understand why women are opposed to other women fighting for their rights. I wish I was able to attend this historic event and show my support for women and all other groups of people who face discrimination or hatred from society.

These topics were no longer an issue when Obama was in office. However, Trump threatens to take away these freedoms from women that will just make us go backwards as a nation.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
