The 60th Annual Grammy Awards were broadcast live this past Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This is the first time in 15 years the Grammys have been hosted outside of Los Angeles... and it won't be the last.
One word to describe this years Grammys is old. By the second hour I was already done watching but stayed to support SZAs performance. Ballads took over the night, unneeded performances, and James Corden promoting Carpool Karaoke. This was not the biggest night for music.
In a year where the Grammy nominees were most diverse you only saw one woman get on stage and accept an award (except Rihanna who won for Best Duo with Kendrick Lamar.)
SZA being the most nominated for five Grammys, sadly lost in every category. A woman who has brought R&B back to the front was snubbed by not only one category but five!!!
Kesha who put on a beautiful emotionally charged performance in honor of the Time's Up movement, was also snubbed last night. They worshipped her presence even though no one supported her when going through the Dr. Luke lawsuit last year.
Lorde, who was the only woman nominated for Album of The Year for her sophomore album Melodrama, was also snubbed. Not in the category but her performance, she sadly did not take the stage Sunday night.
Reports saying she wasn't given a solo performance like all of her male nominees. The Grammys did offer her a Tom Petty tribute but she declined.
Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga are among the other women who were not recognized for their hard work in music.
Will the Grammys learn from these mistakes? Only time will tell...
