Because of recent sexual assault accusations, and the MeToo Movement I don't feel safe anywhere I go. I think many women feel that way, too. I wrote an article about my thoughts and feelings about how unsafe campuses are and how that needs to change. Yet, sexual assault happens off the college campuses and no one talks about it.
I'm not talking about the Hollywood industry because we all have talked about that, have watched the multiple news interviews and reports about another actress speaking up. I'm talking about how I can't feel safe seeing a male doctor anymore, I'm talking about the Larry Nassar investigation that happened at the beginning of 2018.
I recently went to the hospital to get an ultrasound done to see if I had any ovarian cysts, or other problems going on down there. My mom had to remind me if It was a male performing it, I had the right to ask for a female doctor. I had the right to ask for a female nurse to be in the room too. Having her tell me that, made me more anxious to go to this ultrasound where I was already nervous about having it done.
When I saw a woman in pink scrubs and heard her telling me she would be doing the ultrasound I let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding in until then. I shouldn't feel unsafe and uncomfortable about the possibilities of something happening at the doctor's office. I should feel safe there.
That's also what gymnasts thought with Larry Nassar.
People think that it is the clothes we wear and even think that gymnasts wearing leotards is the problem. Well, Aly Raisman had something to say about it all.
We should feel safe on school campuses, with a male contractor working on our houses, with police officers, and in the doctor's office. Athletes should feel safe while seeking treatment from doctors, physical therapists, and coaches.
It's not the male's population's fault women are scared of men.
As Aly Raisman said, it's the pedophiles and the adults who enable them.
