Women Shouldn't Be Allowed On Military Combat Missions

We aren't as strong as men... right?

Women are supposedly are the weaker gender. We are not as strong as men. We can’t do the things they can. I say, "Who says?" Women are weaker and not as strong, are we? Well, when was the last time a man pushed a child out of a ten centimeter hole?

Last time I checked, never. Giving birth is probably the most physically painful thing any living person can experience. Since this is true, why do men get to decide what a woman can handle? For thousands of years it has been because of women that the human race has lasted this long. I am not saying we are solely responsible, I am saying we held a massive part.

It is with that I say that women can do anything a man can do, out of the anatomical range. Since women can do anything they should be allowed to go into heavy combat missions, just as men.

In 2015 CBS news posted an article about this particular topic. The article was called Women Should Be Allowed in Combat. This article told about the unfairness that our nation has been putting women through since it was made legal for women to openly be in the military.

When I say openly I mean that they did not hide the fact that they were women. Thousands of women throughout the past century, and before that, have secretly enlisted as soldiers to fight for their countries, and the ones they love. They fought alongside men. They bled with them, died with them, and risked their lives with them.

At that time no one knew that they were women, so they were allowed in heavy combat. Now that women are allowed in the military, and have the proper training, they are held back from combat missions. Why is that? If they are trained the same as men why are they not allowed to do the same things men do?

There is an argument that women can’t handle what men can handle. They are not physically or mentally strong enough. I do agree that some women are not as strong as men, but why can they not be as mentally capable?

Look at the amount of suicides and desertions that have been brought out over the years. The percentage of men to women is on a massive scale leading toward men. Do not tell me that women are not mentally capable.

There are also theories that if a women is put into a heavy combat situation the unit will not run as smoothly. Again, that is false. Many of those reports showed that they ran better and more smoothly.

In conclusion, as a woman who considers myself as strong as any man in every way I find this bias unacceptable. Unless a man is my father, or God, and eventually, my husband, I will not be told what I am capable of by any man. I think it should be a woman’s choice whether or not she is put into heavy combat.

Women can do anything they put their minds to, just as men do. If we continue to tell women they are not as capable as a man that is what they will believe, and what they will become. We do not go around telling men they are not capable of things, so why should they tell us?

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
