I Wish I Was Her

Don't wish you were someone else. You are you for a reason.

One of the things I absolutely hate hearing is, “I wish I was her.” Yes, I have said this before, but did I really mean it? I feel like every girl has at least once wished that she were someone else. But my question is why? Is society really making us think that the only way to be “cool” is to have a “perfect” body and a lot of friends? Honestly, a ton of friends can be a bad thing. Remember those cliques in middle and high school?

Each person is beautiful and unique in their own way. Without every single person on this planet, everyone’s lives would be different in some way. That’s crazy to think about, but it’s true. You are you for a reason. You have something to do on this Earth, a purpose for your existence. So, why do you wish you were someone you aren’t? Well, this is one of the reasons I hate social media. With the new apps like Instagram, it has become easier for us to post pictures of ourselves and make others believe that our life is “perfect.”

You’re probably thinking, “Instagram is a simple app, what’s the big deal?”

The “big deal” is that while we are trying to conform to the world, we are missing out on some of life's most precious moments because we are too busy looking through a glass screen that projects someone you don’t know on a personal level as having “the best time of their life.” The truth is, we could all be putting on a show, trying to make people believe that our life is great, that we have the best friends, the perfect boyfriend (or girlfriend), we have the best job, great pets, a loving family, surprises. We are trying to make the world believe that we have our lives altogether and that we are perfect – but there’s just one catch; no one is perfect.

It's easy to look on the outside of someone's life and think that they can do no wrong and that everything is going great in their life. What you don't know is what's behind that invisible wall they keep up, guarding their secrets, past and problems. I know that I don't reveal everything going on in my life, and I will admit, I try to make my life look always easy and fun on the outside. We have to remember that it's not always that way.

I know it's hard to always be perfectly content with how you are, but you were meant to be you. One thing that you don't like could be something that another person desperately wants.

Let me tell you, no one’s life is perfect. No matter how good it looks, there is always something that they may not necessarily like.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
