Surviving through the first two years of college is an accomplishment, make no mistake! I mean, it's not a huge one, or comparable to any, you know, any actual accomplishments, but as a freshman, the prospect of it can seem rather daunting.
Recently, a friend of mine and I were out in the ole conversation-inducing hot tub, reminiscing on our college career thus far. We're both juniors now, something we're not quite used to yet. We know we're different than we were those two wonderful (well...) years ago. We've grown as people, and not just because of the "Freshman 15."
What have we learned? Let me tell you, and hopefully, you'll already know these things too. If not, now's a great time to learn. (My friend deserves due credit for verbalizing the majority of the items below.)
1. It's OK not to be OK
2. Make dreams and plans to pursue them
(Worst case scenario, you simply end up learning a lot more about whatever subject holds your passion.)
3. It really is important to always be on time, be organized, and have good grades
4. It's OK to not once in a while
5. Free food is all over the place
You just have to know where to look.
6. Broken hearts aren't all they're cracked up to be
Neither of us has had any experience in such matters, we're just tired of the rest of you complaining!
7. Vulnerability with people is needed
Find those few you can be real with.
8. People are crazy, difficult, annoying, dumb, and faulty
It's OK to admit it, because you are too.
9. Friends are awesome. Let them know.
But don't make it weird.
10. Trust is necessary. You will get hurt and betrayed, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to trust anyway.
Sounds clichéd, but cliché doesn't mean it's wrong.
11. The only thing you can't learn from a textbook is anything that's on the tests
12. Some things are more important than school will ever be. Lean what they are.
13. God has a plan for your life
Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's like trying to "Smell the Color 9" (awesome song). Have faith that no matter how crazy or uncertain the future may appear, God is in control. The knowledge alone can bring such sweet relief!
