Even though winters in Chicago are harsh, after being here for four years, there are reasons I couldn’t live anywhere without winter. Beyond the frigid cold, constant shivering and dangerous driving conditions, the winter is a great season. By learning to enjoy the winter and accept it for what it is, I’ve come to see how wonderful this season is.

1. First of all, it doesn't last all year

Without the frigid cold of the winter though, I don't think I'd be able to appreciate the warmth of the summer.

2. You get to change up your wardrobe

By mid-summer, I’m itching to wear hoodies and boots again just to have a different outfit to plan/accessorize.

3. It’s fun to bundle yourself up in layers of sweaters and scarves

Layers are what cute winter outfits are made of.

4. It’s the season for ice skating

One of the best romantic dates to go on during the winter.

5. It’s the hot chocolate season

Hot chocolate is the perfect way to warm up after a day outside in the snow.

6. Relive your childhood by building snowmen, making snow angels and having snowball fights

One of my favorite parts of my childhood was building giant snowmen in the yard with my friends.

7. You can walk through the snow and hear your boots crunch

Yes, it'll get stuck in your treads and create puddles once it warms, but crunching through the first snow is so much fun.

8. You can watch the snow fall from inside

I love waking up to see the first snow falling outside.

9. Curling up with a good book has never been easier

Sure you can always grab a book and sit on the couch, but the winter is when I get to cuddle up with a blanket and sip a warm drink while I indulge in a good book.

10. You can cuddle up all day long and watch Netflix on repeat

Spending most weekends on the couch with your S.O. watching Netflix on repeat just to be warm and not deal with the cold is the best excuse to stay in and one you can't use in the summer.

11. The best holidays are during the winter

Christmas brings family and presents and New Year’s brings a night out with friends.

12. Christmas lights adorn cities

No matter what, the spirit and joy of the holiday season is palpable in the air. Although this goes away after the NYE celebrations, the lights add an extra bit of charm to city centers.

13. Christmas markets serve food, drinks, and holiday spirit

Warm up while sipping on mulled wine and feasting on great market food. Although they're only around until late December/early January, the nostalgia for my home they bring me is why I adore them.

14. There are no bugs

As someone who hates bugs, the respite from their presence in the winter is something I welcome with open arms.

The winter can be tough to deal with and may get us down from time to time because of the short days and limited sunlight, there’s no way I could live in a static season. I grew up with the four seasons so it would feel strange to give up the winter.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
