While we're waiting for the real winter in Michigan to begin, it is easy to start thinking that we don't want the snow to fall. It makes driving slower, it's a lot colder (and more slippery) walk to class, and people start to crank up their heat (spending more money on bills). But once the snow gets here, no matter how cold it is, it is hard to deny how beautiful the snow is once it falls.
Winter across the country can either be very mild or nonexistent. But Michigan weather usually ensures that we have a full-fledged winter, meaning lots of snow. There's no doubt winter in Michigan is the best, and here's why:
Snow Sports
Winter is the best time for those who love skiing and snowboarding. There are multiple slopes, both big and small, in Michigan. Make it a goal this winter to go to as many ski slopes as possible to ski/snowboard to your heart's desire. If you're not into those, get a group of friends together and try a game of broom ball. This winter, try out something that you wouldn't normally do. Be adventurous. If you aren't one for adventure, grab a sled (or cardboard box) and go sledding with friends or family.
Best Sights
No matter where you are, if you have snow, it's beautiful to see. Looking out your window and seeing the snow falling will always be one of the best sights, unless you really hate snow, then I suggest not looking out your window for a while. If you're lucky enough to live by a lake or some sort of water, watching it slowly turn to ice is a crazy sight to see. If you're feeling daring, see if the ice is hard enough and grab a part of ice skates. Try going for a hike and see how great the snow-covered scenery looks.
Holiday Vibes
Winter in Michigan is bound to bring around some serious holiday vibes. With the first snow of the year and the big temperature drop, it means winter is coming. With winter comes a holiday season for many cultures. If you aren't a fan of being outside in the cold and snow, stay inside in the warmth. If you're really trying to get cozy, start a fire and drink some hot chocolate. The cold weather outside means a warmer and cozier inside.
