So we all had a list of things we wanted to accomplish the minute we left our last final in December and went home. I mean, even sleeping more than six hours and eating are "goals" to an extent. Some of us wanted to get things done (ya know, like go out and run because you actually have time to do so, or even attend to a hobby you haven't picked up because, ya know, life). Things like that. But come on, as much as we want to do an endless amount of activities over break, some of the items simply were never meant to happen.
Expectation: You're going to be productive.
We all kind of hope we can get things done over the month-long break. Whether it's build a desk that's been sitting in your room since August or read for leisure, we all have things we've been putting off all semester.
Reality: You ate a lot, and you watched a lot of Netflix.
Guilty as charged. While you may have glanced at a list of tasks in hopes that you would tackle them tomorrow, you probably Netflixed a lot. And ate those Christmas cookies that your mom makes.
Expectation: You wanted to visit friends from home.
Oh come on, you haven't seen them all semester. And if you have, you were one of few who were able to. So you're dying to see at least a few of your high school buddies.
Reality: You may have been socializing heavy for the first few days, but you soon threw in the towel after about a week.
Yeah, you went out once, maybe even three times. But if you're anything like me, going out means being in places where you might have to spend money. Or wear pants. So with these realizations, you figure your high school friends can wait until summer.
Expectation: You're going to paint more, run more, or do something you've been wanting to do all semester.
We all have hobbies, we all have our time wasters. And we all had things we wanted to do when we got home.
Reality: Where did I even leave my art supplies? I'm too out of shape. Maybe tomorrow.
I mean, even hobbies take work. Maybe you picked up the pen once, or maybe you went out for a round of basketball. But staying inside most of the vacay was nice, too.
Expectation: You're going to get a head start on buying textbooks and school supplies.
I always have this idea in my head that I am going to be ten steps ahead of everyone, and I know a lot of people also have that mentality. "Next semester will be better!"
Reality: Oh, crap, it's January 19. And I have no books.
But if you're also similar to me, and you end up procrastinating a lot, "Next semester will be the same!"
Expectation: You're going to go on a lot of adventures.
I'm going to leave for the day to visit a friend. I want to go into the city today and explore. I want to go to the snow. Blah blah blah...
Reality: Oh yeah, I'm broke.
But you forgot that those things cost money. And after Christmas and a semester away from home, odds are you're pretty broke.
Hope you enjoyed a few laughs, happy spring semester
