20 Things You Definitely Need To Do Over Winter Break

We've all been there: being bored during winter break. After about 2 weeks of my first winter break as a freshman, I figured out some ways to keep myself occupied. Boredom isn't so bad after all. Whether you're a freshman experiencing this for the first time or a senior dreading this for the last time, here are 20 suggestions of what to do over break to conquer your boredom:

1. Spend time with family and friends

What's a better way to pass time than to spend it with people you haven't seen in months. Catch up with some of your favorite people that you don't get to see often while you're at school.

2. Go to a concert

Gather your favorite group of friends and family and go enjoy a concert of your favorite band or one you've never even heard of.

3. Go gift shopping

Gift shopping for other people is a great way to spend your time, especially over winter break. Get creative and surprise your family and friends with a gift they'll love.

4. OR go shopping for yourself

This one is a no brainer. Who doesn't love buying themselves some of their own holiday gifts? Plus, you've just been through finals. There's no better time to treat yourself.

5. Try a new restaurant

Go on yelp and look for the best restaurants in your area. Trying new food is a GREAT way to spend your time. This is something my mom and I just love doing.

6. Cook something new

Watch as many tasty videos as you can and attempt to cook the most appealing meal.

7. Binge watch all the Harry Potter movies

I can't tell you how many times I've done this. Whether you love Harry Potter or you've only seen one movie before, this is one of my favorite ways to pass time when I'm alone.

8. Apply for internships

This is a great productive way to spend your time. Go on linked in and click "jobs," and then fill out what you're interested in and what area you would like to work in and start applying. It doesn't get more simple than that.

9. Visit college friends

Visit your college friends who's towns sound interesting to you or who live near a fun area. My college friends visit me all the time so we can spend a night in NYC together.

10. Take an online class

If your school offers classes during your winter break, take one. It's a great way to get some of your required classes out of the way.

11. Redecorate your room

I can't count how many times I've done this. Even if it's just moving my furniture around.

12. Exercise

Go to the gym, walk your dog, or try a new yoga class. Exercising will boost your mood and pass the time quickly.

13. Get your nails and toes done

One of my favorite things to do.

14. Get a facial

Pamper yourself.

15. Get a temporary job

Getting a job is awesome for meeting new people, passing time, and making money - things every college student loves.

16. Go on a vacation

Plan and go on a vacation with family and friends. Skiing and the beach are both perfect.

17. Catch up on sleep

Who doesn't love to sleep?

18. Find a new hobby

Try drawing or playing the untouched piano that has been sitting in your family room for years.

19. Help your parents

Thank your parents for everything they've done for you by emptying the dishwasher or doing some of their laundry.

20. Relax: do nothing at all

My best advice... do nothing at all. I don't know about you but everyday at school I have about 5 minutes a day to relax. Take advantage of your break by taking some deep breaths and doing nothing.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
