Winter Break As Told By The Grinch

It's the best of times, it's the worst of times, all told by our friend the Grinch.

Going home on winter break is always filled with a bunch of different emotions. First you are just glad that finals are over and you can take a break from academics. That relief turns to boredom and annoyance at your family. Then you see your high school sweetheart while you're in yogas and a hoodie. And that's all within the first two weeks.

1. Seeing your pet for the first time

*Cue cute agression*

2. Trying to find someone to hang out with

High school friends just don't cut it after a while. You all went your separate ways and it might be best to stay that way.

3. When your mom asks if you want food

You mean non-cafe food? Warm, completely cooked, not dried out, food as it should be? And you're going to make it?

4. Seeing your ex

*Immediately retreats back into front door to make self look hot as hell*

5. Your grandmother's feeding you and asking about school

I know, I have been working so hard this semester. You're right, my mom should lay off. I will totally take your money.

6. Fighting with your mom

At some point the reunion love wears off and the fights begin. And no, my clothes aren't in piles on my floor.

7. Trying on new Christmas clothes

8. Making plans for the day

The days get long and you have to keep busy. Even if they're with yourself.

9. Annoying your pet because they are your only friend left at home

At first your pet is super stoked you are home, then you start interrupting their naps, and they are over your sh*t real quick

10. Becoming your only drinking buddy

Bars at home are more expensive and you can't go to them in your pajamas and you can't bring your cat or Netflix.

11. When your family is up early

Like, yeah, I know you're going to work so that you can pay all my bills and support me, but could you be a little quieter?

Also, your heart will definitely not grow two sizes this break, so don't count on it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
