I Will Not Let My Fears Control Me

My fears are my motivation

I Will Not Let My Fears Control Me

We all have something that we are fearful of, some more than others. Everyone has different things and experiences that they are afraid of and the way that they handle it depends on the type of person they are. There is always something that I am fearful of, no matter how small. I can't help it and I feel like it's in my nature to be afraid because of who I am, but I'm not apologizing for it.

They say to never let fear decide your future, but sometimes fear gives you that push you need in order to reach your goals. Have you ever been so scared to do something that you actually force yourself to do it? Have you ever been at the edge of a diving board, ready to jump and suddenly your heart starts racing and you start to turn back around because you think you can't do it? Then that little voice inside your head tells you to turn around and go back to that edge and just face the height and the water and the people watching you. So, you close your eyes and you jump and suddenly, you are under water and then you come up for air and you are fine. Nothing bad happened and you are overcome with this sense of accomplishment that you faced your fear. That is what I am talking about. That is letting fear decide your future--you either let it control you or you let it motivate you.

It is nerve wracking, but there comes a time in your life where you have to tell yourself that what you want is on the other side of that fear. Turn that negative into a positive. Talk yourself through it. What you are scared of is failure, but failure isn't the worst thing that could happen. Failure allows you to try again and to not make the same mistake. Failure allows you to have a second chance. So the next time you are fearful of something, think of this: I will not let my fears control me. I will not let my fears control my life. I will not let me fears take over and consume my soul. I control me. I control my life. I believe in my soul.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
