Chocolate bars. Chocolate chips. Chocolate cake. Chocolate frosting. Chocolate is my favorite food group, and I'm not ashamed of it. I'd rather eat chocolate than steak most days. When I'm at my lowest, there is nothing that a king-sized chocolate bar (with a caramel-infused center, of course) can't fix.
Why? Because chocolate is amazing. So forget about the carbs (or whatever it is that they are called) and treat yourself to some cocoa instead.
As a college student, I need a little perk in my day every now and then.
Chocolate and snack breaks are essential to my very survival as a college student. There's nothing quite like a pick-me-up from your favorite chocolate bar to ease the pain of 15-page research papers and mandatory reading each night.
I'll be honest, some days are so bad that I just want to drown my sorrows in a 12-hour sweets binge, complete with super chunky cookie dough ice cream, an iced caramel macchiato with extra caramel, and a 12-pack of white chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Although you can't spend every day in Candy Land, you can make the best of the one life you're given by appreciating the little things every now and then.
Let's be honest: chocolate rocks because it won't ever judge you.
Chocolate will always be there to support you on your roughest days. Chocolate doesn't discriminate, and it doesn't care about what other people say. Are you worried about what society thinks of your body? Chocolate says "hey, don't worry; you're beautiful no matter what and you deserve a taste of this delicious blend of luxury cocoa and milk and sugar because you're worth it."
Personally, I'd rather listen to chocolate than the tiny voice that scolds me when I step on the scale. So what? I like chocolate. Real beauty comes from the inside, anyways.
What's the point of living if you never enjoy it?
I've tried dieting, cutting back calories, and completely eliminating sugar from my life. Actually, I'm pretty sure that we have all done those things at least once or twice. And we can all admit that it was awful. Especially around the start of each new year, we try to reinvent ourselves by throwing out the very things that give us enjoyment and happiness.
For some reason, we spend hundreds of dollars on products that promise us skinny bodies and restored energy. We cut out the best things in life in the hopes that our bodies will finally match society's ideal image for us. But we never stop to realize that we are perfect just as we are.
Our bodies change a million different times throughout our lives, and that's OK. No one will ever look like the girl in the Covergirl commercial becauseshe truly doesn't even look like that, even on her best day. The "ideal" bodies we see on TV, in advertising, and in movies are nothing but computer-generated mash-ups of "perfect" body parts from thousands of different, imperfect people.
So stop measuring yourself up to those images. If you like something, do it. Try it. Eat it. Relish in the moment, because you only get one chance to live this life. If you are a chocolate addict like me, own it. You deserve to enjoy all that life has to offer.
