Teachers Are The Greatest Gifts To Students

Why I want to be a teacher.

When I grew up, I used to always play with my cousins. In the basement, there was always a chalk board/ white board easel. We used to always play school and had fun in our childhood. I would always make up little assignment sheets and pretended to be the teacher.

Once I got older, I began to start wanting to be just like my one older cousin. She was a nurse and that meant I wanted to be one, too. I saw how much she made and how happy she was to help people and I knew I would be perfect at it. Once I was seventeen, I realized being a nurse wasn’t the only way I could help people.

I had a teacher in high school who helped me. She brought back to me that same joy that I had when I was playing school as a kid. My teacher actually cared about her students and wanted to see them be as successful as Audrey Hepburn. She sparked a fire in me and helped me see that there are lots of ways to help people.

It is no secret that teachers do not make as much money as nurses. However, being able to help kids learn is priceless. Nurses deal with sick kids, which can be really hard. As a teacher, I will be able to help students learn. Learning is a gift that will help a student in their life. I will be able to teach them to love learning so that they go far in their life. Teachers help students to have a great future and that is why I am so happy I had a great teacher my senior year of high school.

If I did not have my teacher, I would be a nursing student right now instead of studying elementary education. I am so happy with what I have picked to be my future career. I want to help all of my students the same way my teacher helped me.

Being able to decorate my whole classroom will be so exciting even though I will have to use my own money to do so. Students are the future and even though it is a lot of pressure shaping the minds of the future, I am up for the challenge.

As a teacher, you are not only teaching your students the basic subjects. A teacher teaches kids life lessons. In my lesson plans each week, I will be writing more than just what I am covering in the chapters for the week. If my students do not feel the same way that I felt in my teacher’s classroom, I will feel like I failed as a teacher. I will be teaching the next generation of politicians, doctors, lawyers, parents, and teachers.

I do not want the world to be screwed up for my own kids so it is important I teach my students the proper way to behave. Yes, it is the parents’ job to teach their child respect and manners, but it is also partly my job. Although being a teacher is a lot of work, I am so excited. The teacher I had my senior year of high school taught me so much that I cannot wait to pass onto my students.

So, to the teacher my senior year, thank you. Thank you for helping me figure out my future. I hope I can be just as great as you are. I couldn’t imagine myself being a nurse anymore and that is all thanks to you. You have shown me how to be a great teacher and a mentor to kids.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
