If you like "The Twilight Zone," you'll love "Black Mirror." If you don't like "The Twilight Zone," you'll probably love "Black Mirror" anyway. If you need a quick series to binge watch, and if you enjoy a wild ride, then stop reading this, log into Netflix, and get started. Seriously you should go watch now. I promise you won't regret it.
"Black Mirror" has been referred to as the modern-day "Twilight Zone," and this is extremely accurate. Each episode in the series is it's own independent story, so there's no need to watch the episodes in order (Although watching in order does allow you to pick up on the details the creators purposely add into every series.). Each story is filled with twists and turns and ends in a way that you wouldn't expect, leaving you with your jaw on the floor every time. If you're not up for being shocked and caught off guard every time you watch, you may not enjoy the show, but I suggest you give it a try anyway. As shocking as the endings are, and as frustrating as some may seem, there's something about the show that will keep you wanting more. Maybe it's the fact that the episode took the turn you least expected, or maybe it's the desire to experience more of the convoluted worlds each episode.
Almost every episode features a high-tech gadget or scientifically advanced experience that current technology cannot provide. Things like implants that record memories and virtual reality that connects directly to one's brain are used in each episode to create a story line or add depth to the plot. Details are meticulously placed, creating a full and effective viewing experience. The visuals in each episode are fresh and enticing, and the acting is consistently great from episode to episode.
Personally, I have never seen a show as twisted and amazing as "Black Mirror." The series really is a work of art, which each viewer can view and appreciate. Each episode sparks conversation about modern-day issues and flaws in society. If you have any interest in sci-fi, or even just a fantastic, thrilling TV show, I would highly recommend "Black Mirror." With only 13 episodes, it's the perfect winter break binge.
