Sometimes, late at night, I'll be driving home from a friend's house and I'll have a nervous feeling that something bad could happen to me, like being struck by a drunk driver, or a deer running out in front of me. So whenever I have this nervous feeling, I take a moment, I say a quick prayer, and I ask God to protect me and to help me get home safe.
Now, I am by no means a "Jesus freak." I go to church occasionally and I am one to always try to say my prayers before bed, although sometimes I fall asleep before I have a chance to. I wouldn't even associate myself with a specific religion because I have various religious beliefs and I don't really believe that anyone should be forced to believe in what one religion believes in just because that's what society has dubbed "normal."
What I am saying is, I am a 21-year-old junior in college. I am in a sorority and I am highly active in clubs and activities on campus. I am just like you. If I can say a quick prayer, so can you.
I have so many friends of mine who don't believe in a specific religion, but they never take the time to fold their hands and say a prayer to the man above because maybe they are scared of the idea, or maybe it's something they are not comfortable doing, which I completely respect and understand.
But I will tell you that there is not a day that goes by where I don't send a prayer to the big man above. Whether I am scared about an exam I have the following day or I am having a hard time catching a break that day, I say a quick prayer and I instantly feel a sign of relief.
No, this is not me saying that a prayer will instantly fix all of your problems because there's a good chance that it won't fix any of your problems, but praying gives you a good opportunity to send your worries somewhere and pray that you'll receive a break or that something good will come of all of it.
I am never scared to say a prayer because I know that no matter what happens to me, or what card I am dealt in life, I was put into those situations for a reason, and if at times you feel as if you have no one, you're scared, you feel alone, or whatever might be going through your head, fold your hands, close your eyes, and send a quick prayer.
I promise you, I have never said a prayer and felt bad about it after. I always feel relieved and I have a different outlook on the situation after the prayer has been sent.
