My sophomore year of high school, I was presented with an opportunity to help coach a youth soccer team. I was very hesitant to coach, because I grew up doing gymnastics and I had no idea how to play soccer. That one season turned into four amazing seasons with an amazing team. There are so many benefits of coaching a youth sport's team, and this is why you should.
1. 4-year olds are very wise.
It's pretty shocking but you learn a lot when being surrounded by young kids. They tell you that life is great because the sun is shining, and they have the wisdom to let little mistakes go because, there's always going to be another opportunity to shine.
2. You learn communication skills.
When being a coach you learn to properly convey instructions to the children, but you also communicate with parents and other coaches. You learn the proper ways to send an email, how to facilitate information, and function around adults.
3. You are making a difference in a child's life.
You never know what a child is going through. As a coach, you're teaching them how to play a game that can change their lives, and you're opening a whole new door for them. Just being there to ask about their day and have them tell their stories from play time instantly makes them happier. Also, by exercising with the children, you're improving their health.
4. It's stress relieving.
While coaching you are constantly moving and exercising, which releases endorphins, making you a happier person. Also, seeing a player finally nail a move that they have been working on forever, or a child scoring in their first game, really makes your heart swell.
5. You get to teach the next generation viable life skills.
As a coach you get to teach the players team work, which is a valuable life skill that's always needed. Another great skill is sportsmanship, because there's no reason to be mean to other people, and you should be happy for other people's accomplishments.
