7 Reasons Why You Should Become A Scuba Diver
Leah Bisson

I became a certified Scuba diver when I was 14 and it was by far one of the best decisions I have ever made. Both my parents are dive masters and I grew up around Scuba diving. I would spend weekends on the dive boats, snorkeling and watching my parents dive from above. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a Scuba diver. Here is why I think you should become a certified Scuba diver too!

1. You get to a see a world so different from the one you see every day.

The underwater world is beautiful, amazing and so different from what we see on a daily basis. The colors are amazing, the wildlife is stunning and everything is so peaceful underwater.

2. You get to experience wildlife from an entirely new perspective.

Often when you go for a walk in the woods the animals stay fairly far away from you. While scuba diving most of the fish just treat you as if you were another, large fish. As long as you don't rapidly approach another fish you can get really close to most of the wildlife.

3. Time is running out.

Coral reefs are suffering and dying at an alarmingly high rate. If you want to see some of the most amazing coral reefs you need to get certified now before more damage is done. Becoming a Scuba diver has made me that much more passionate about protecting our oceans.

4. You meet some awesome people.

When you meet people while Scuba diving you know that you at least have one thing in common to start: a love of diving. I have met some amazing people while hanging out on the dive boat!

5. Traveling gets so much more exciting.

You never have to worry about running out of things to do on a vacation again.Spend the day Scuba diving!

6. It is a hobby you can do for your entire life.

I have seen Scuba divers of every age. You can spend the rest of your life Scuba diving. I love that I am able to go Scuba diving with both my parents. There is no age limit!

7. It will change your life.

Scuba diving is honestly my favorite thing to do in the world. I feel so connected to nature when I scuba dive. I haven't found anything in the world that excited me more than seeing a shark, eagle ray or turtle on a dive.

Go find a local dive got and get certified! Already certified? start planning your next dive trip! You will not regret it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
