Ahh, forgiveness. We love to receive it, yet giving it out feels almost impossible. If there is one thing I have really been able to grasp the concept of lately, it is the power that forgiveness holds. When we think of forgiveness, we often confuse it with weakness. But that’s just not the case at all. The act of forgiving someone will benefit you way more than it will the person on the receiving end. It’s time to stop seeking reassurance in the same places you lost it and create your own serenity. Picture the happiness that’ll flood your life when you let go of the negativity that has been brought your way -- that’s the goal. Here’s why you need to forgive that person who did you dirty.
First off, I think it’s important you understand that it is OK to not be OK. This is a feeling that, unfortunately, most of us are way too familiar with. At this point, the one thing we know for sure is that the damage has been done. When you learn to accept this, the rest will come smoother than you think. How you deal with the hurt is in your hands. You can sulk and scream and curse their name, but after all is said and done, nothing changes as a result aside from the number of tears rolling down your cheeks. Everything will be just fine, thanks to the power of forgiveness.
You know yourself better than anyone. You know exactly how badly holding onto the pain kills you and that’s exactly what it’ll continue to do if you keep it pent up. This is a time when you really need to think about yourself. Forgiving someone has everything to do with you and little with them. You are doing this for you. Forgiving will put your heart on that direct path to healing. This will bring you the peace of mind you have been longing for. Write about it, talk about it, sing about it and dance about it. Rejoice in your forgiveness and celebrate the negativity that you are releasing. Use this energy to empower yourself and own it.
Just because you forgive does not at all mean that you should forget. I believe it is important that you don't forget the agony someone has put you through. You wouldn’t want history to repeat itself.
Life is weird, and every bit of it (good or bad) happens for a reason. Don’t let one person in this world of billions break you down.
