A video of Malia Obama was leaked last week of her blowing smoke rings in a bathroom. The video went viral and many people on Twitter voiced their opinions on these videos.
Former first daughter, Chelsea Clinton as well as the current first daughter Ivanka Trump tweeted their opinions:
Why are we all so concerned with a college student experimenting and living her life? What entitles us to be the judge of Malia Obama’s personal choices even if her choices are unhealthy?
We all know the health concerns over smoking, but let her make her own personal choices. We should not be judging an adult by the way she chooses to live her life. Let this college student be just that. This is a young person that did not choose to be a public figure yet she finds her every moved written about and photographed.
It saddens me that the media chooses to broadcast Malia Obama smoking as "news." So, here are some things that the media could be reporting on instead of Malia Obama private life:
1. President Trump’s consideration of lifting the ban on hunting elephants- an already endangered species in Africa.
2. Sexual assault incidents have risen in the United States.
3. Suicide rates are dangerously high for men in the United States (according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, men are 3.5 times more likely to commit suicide than women).
4. In 2016, 549,928 people nationwide were considered homeless (these people include, but are not limited to, veterans, children, and women).
5. Climate change is real and is slowly killing the planet we live on.
We should all listen to Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump when they state that Malia Obama's private life should remain private and should be protected.
So instead of a person's private life, let's focus on important events.
