On February 4, 2018, the shock of a century came to all football fans and genuinely anyone watching the Super Bowl.
The Patriots made it to the final two once again. There was no shock there. But, what about the Eagles? Did anyone see that coming? The underdogs made it to the very end. With determination, passion for the sport and intense comradery, the Eagles defeated the team that is usually victorious.
Fans of the Patriots were anything but worried about the face-off between teams until the very last quarter when the game began to slip away from them. The Eagles led the game for the majority of its duration, but there was always hope for the Patriots to make a comeback similar to last years game.
Once the Patriots were leading by a single point, fans of the New England team began to regain confidence again. They were relying on the infamous Patriot "comeback" to save them and ultimately get Tom Brady his sixth Super Bowl ring. However, from start to finish, it was evident that the Eagles were going to do everything in their power to defeat the usually "superior" team.
Growing up in a family of Eagles fans, the Super Bowl suddenly meant something to me this year. Every other year, it was just a reason to get together with family and friends and watch the halftime show. This football season, the Eagles proved themselves each and every game in order to get to the Super Bowl and fans of the team were more than proud. Since the team had previously never won a Super Bowl before, this year was different and the best kind of unusual.
The Eagles winning the Super Bowl proves that anyone could be successful with the right mindset. Although no one expected this particular team to make it this far into the season, nevertheless win, they kept going and were determined to get there. The Eagles remained positive although the majority of football fans attempted to knock them down. They put in every ounce of effort they had to pull off this major win.
Should the Patriots have won? In my opinion, not at all. Regardless of growing up in a household full of Eagles fans, the Patriots didn't deserve it as much. It wasn't about the number of Super Bowl wins, who had the most skill or what the general public expected.
The team with the most determination and effort deserves to win the Super Bowl. This year, it was the Eagles.
