If anyone has been keeping up on DC Comic's latest movie, Suicide Squad, then you probably know that the critic’s reviews for it haven’t been so stellar.
This has apparently struck panic in Warner Bros and DC because Suicide Squad was supposed to be their jump start with DC comics and help excite people for their new phase of movies. Because if you haven’t noticed, DC’s superhero movies kind of suck. Or at least I personally don’t like them. Yes, even the much praised Batman trilogy. (Also everyone knows who Batman and Superman is, why not introduce other, cooler DC heroes instead of all these remakes? Just a thought).
Doing a little digging, I found out that Suicide Squad is supposed to live up to lots of expectations: not just for the the audience, but for the people behind the movie too. In the end, the most important thing is that the movie needs to rake in enough money to break even (and probably then some). I think that Warner Bros and DC shouldn’t be too worried about losing their money over this movie though. Here’s why: They used some big-name actors to help bring in non-superhero crazed audiences, the cast is a good mix of race (for Hollywood) and (binary) gender, and then the advertising. Oh the advertising.
As a loyal Marvel fan, I actually got really excited when I saw the first teaser trailer for this movie, and yes, I was shocked that DC was producing something that looked so cool. So far, the trailers for the movie have been amazing and it has drawn a huge audience in for the movie’s premiere. Also, I don’t know if you have noticed or not, but Suicide Squad has been plastered all over social media. They even got their own little Discovery Story on Snapchat earlier last week, and pop culture news outlets and publications have snuck some bits of the Squad into their pieces and/or features.
The hungry DC fans are more pumped than anyone about this movie because it is their time to bask in the glory of a (hopefully) fantastic DC movie. One particular fan even started a petition to take down Rotten Tomatoes after Suicide Squad’s terrible reviews, and boy did that take off. However, it was later found that the petition was started kind of as a joke, and the owner of the petition wants to take it down because he didn’t mean to spread vicious hate that some DC fans have for the critics.
Overall, I am going to wait a good week to see this movie because I know the theatre is still going to be packed with people anxiously waiting to finally see this. The hype was so real, that it seems like the critics reviews aren’t really making too big of an impact on the box office. Fans and anticipating viewers are still going to watch it, and probably enjoy it, even though there will be people who will easily admit that the movie had problems. But even with those problems, it’s probably still worth a watch.
