I will be the first to say that up until a few months ago, I found social media to be a soul sucking, time wasting, rampant disease that plagued our earth and almost every person in it. I felt that people wasted wayyyy too much of their time on it (which this I do still agree with), and that if you posted regularly, all you were doing was trying to convince the world of how great your life is.
What has only recently begun to change my mind is the interest I have taken in photography and videography. As I have been investing my time in it, I have found so many people through social media platforms who express their forms of art. It has led me to new writers, graphic designers, and of course photographers and videographers. I have been able to learn so much new information, and find inspiration every day to continue working on my craft.
It has also shown me how finding other people with similar passions as you can grow a community that you would have never had the opportunity to be a part of, had social media not been relevant to you.
Now, where the overarching issue lies is in the insecurities of people, the constant comparing yourself to others, and the constant feeling the need to present yourself in only a certain way, whether it is realistic or not. All of these things make social media toxic, and I honestly do not know how it will ever be able to be stopped. Regardless of if it can be, I think it is important to find the good in any construct of society, and use it as an opportunity for yourself to grow.
We will see how long my support with the socials last, but for now, I am backing them.
