Creator, head writer, executive producer, and show runner of a medical television show, a political thriller, and now a serial legal drama, one could say that Shonda Rhimes has definitely covered all of her bases. If you did not get those references, I am referring to your summer binge watching of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and her new show, How To Get Away With Murder. Here are five reasons why Shonda Rhimes totally rocks your world.
1. ShondaLand. You know that logo that looks like a fun roller coaster that pops up at the end of every Shonda show? Well, Rhimes has her own production company called ShondaLand that includes Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder.
2. Rhimes loves red wine! As if this wasn't a dead giveaway, with Olivia Pope's alcohol of choice. Rhimes has said that Olivia drinks red because she drinks red.
3. TGIT features Rhimes' three best shows on ABC. This fall, ABC has you saying TGIT instead of TGIF, with it's new line up of television shows that Rhimes is most famous for. I don't know about you but, "Thank, God, It's Thursday," has a whole new meaning when it looks like friends gathered on the couch, all sharing a box of wine and channeling our inner Olivia Pope to watch Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and our new favorite, How To Get Away With Murder.
4. Rhimes recycles her actors. If you haven't noticed, a lot of actors with ShondaLand appear in multiple Shonda shows. For example, actors, Jeff Perry and Kate Burton, play Thatcher and Ellis Grey in Grey's Anatomy ,and then appear in Scandal as Cyrus Beene and Sally Langston!
5. Rhimes is inspiring with her quotes. "A lot of people dream," Rhimes has said. "And while they are busy dreaming, the really happy people, the really successful people, the really interesting, powerful, engaged people? Are busy doing. I wanted to be Nobel Prize-winning author, Toni Morrison. That was my dream. I blue-skied it like crazy. I dreamed and dreamed. And while I was dreaming, I was living in my sister's basement. Dreamers often end up living in the basement of relatives."
