Scribbles Coffee is a family owned coffee shop, using “fair trade and organic coffee, teas and products”. The scribbles coffee shop is a comfortable place for students to relax and study or hang out and listen to music. Scribbles coffee supports local artists and musicians. In fact, often on Fridays local musicians/artists will perform for you while you enjoy your coffee and teas. Many events such as bands, poetry readings and other artists take place where artists bring what they got to Scribbles Coffee. To decorate the coffee shop, they have local artist’s creations and paintings hung up on the wall, which you can enjoy and even purchase.

The coffee is organic, fair trade and freshly ground with every brew. Their expresso is also freshly ground for every drink. They use a traditional (old fashion) expresso machine to ground their expresso. Scribbles have many different flavors you can mix and match with. They also have a wide variety of teas and you can mix and match, creating your own blend.

What makes scribbles the best coffee shop in Kent, Ohio is not only because of the delicious coffee and teas but also because of the community. The baristas are all kind and easygoing and will work with you whenever you want to try something new. Each coffee is made precisely to the customer needs. The place is comfortable and very welcoming. The people who are there are often college students and the “alternative” type who come and enjoy good coffee and listen to good music. Outside of scribbles is a sitting area where you will often meet interesting people whom you may not always run into on campus.

Scribbles coffee is unique because it is artsy and alternative. It is also called “scribbles” for a reason because on the tables is a sheet of paper you can draw on. They have crayons and other coloring utensils you can use to doodle on their tables. While you are sipping on your coffee, you can leave your imprint by drawing a picture or sharing a quote you enjoy. Inside scribbles are also various books you can enjoy while you’re there as well. The place creates a calm vibe and creates a good environment for both studious and adventurous people. It’s one of Kent, Ohio’s hidden gems that you should put on your list to explore.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
