Why #RapeMelania Is So WRONG

Who the hell do we think we are saying this!?

OK so let me just put this out there- the election is over. In case some people aren't aware, Trump won the Presidential election and that is that. You can riot, protest, debate all you want; You can say "Trump Isn't My President" all you want- but guess what? He is.

This article is not about politics. Instead, it is about something so much more. I don't care who you voted for and I am sure all of your Facebook friends don't care either, so there is really no need to dedicate your days to writing paragraph long Facebook statuses regarding the election- whether you are happy or disappointed with the outcome.

What this article is about is the blatant hate and, for lack of better words, f*cked up Twitter trending hashtag- #RapeMelania. Protesters gathered in front of Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. for an #AntiTrump rally. Apparently a protester was seen with this sign.

Not only does this go against everything Hillary supporters hated about Trump and praised Hillary for (am I right? or am I right?) but this is one of the biggest problems America has. Can't we be civil human beings? Can't we simply just get along? This makes me sick. We are capable of having different opinions- on EVERYTHING. That is the beauty about being American. I understand freedom of speech is our right, and that is entirely the truth and every American should practice that right- but this is going to far.

#RapeMelania was trending on Twitter. Trending. On. Twitter. What the hell has our country come to. Melania Trump will be our nation's First Lady come January. Whether you like it, agree with it, say "he's not my president"- it doesn't matter. Melania will be our future First Lady and this hashtag should never have existed- let alone been trending.

Let's talk about rape for a second. Rape is a crime; it is sexual assault. It leaves its victims with emotional and (sometimes) physical scars. Now again, this is not an article about politics. I am well aware of Trump's "grab her by the- " video and that is no better than this situation. But can we not wish harm on others? As someone who knows what a seriously chilling impact rape has on a person, this hashtag made me cry. How dare we go so far to wish ill will on another human being? When will our nation open it's eyes and remember that we are ONE. We are a TEAM. If Trump fails- we fail. How could any American wish to see Melania get raped? How can any American wish to see Trump ruin our country? For what- to prove a point?!

In a Washington Post article, the following tweets relating to the "trending" hashtag were mentioned.

Having a trend like "Rape Melania" is a crime! It should not be trending! pic.twitter.com/6IgygAbwBD

Liberals think Trump is bad for women so they respond by going in front of Trump tower and calling for Melania's rape. #MakesSense

Liberals one week ago: "Love trumps Hate!"
Liberals now: "Assassinate Trump!" & "Rape Melania"
Yeah...the right candidate won, definitely.

Rape Melania is trending. You know, because liberals love women and immigrants so much.

Wake up, America. No matter who you voted for, do you really agree with this? Put politics aside, because this has nothing to do with who you voted for. This has to do with being a good person and a good American. If the sign read "Rape Hillary", this article would be written exactly the same. Rape is a crime. That hashtag is a threat.

Let's put an end to hate. Let's come together like the country I know we can be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
