Everyone's heard of Dungeons and Dragons. It's a game that's been around for forever and it is the origin of many pop culture tropes, like alignment charts for example. Despite it's seniority, not a whole lot of people play it anymore which is understandable. Now people care about video games. A roleplaying board game just doesn't have appeal to younger generations. They take too long to set up and to keep up compared to a game you can log into on a console. Dungeons and Dragons also has an infamous reputation for being a "nerdy" or "lame" game. I'm here to tell you it's definitely not and here's why you should play:
You can be whoever.
Don't like your life? Create a new one. You want to be a sassy wizard with purple hair? Be it. Nothing's stopping you in Dungeons and Dragons. Well, maybe just your Dungeon Master, but still, the limitations are few.
You never know what is going to happen.
You may think you know what is about to happen during a storyline, but you really have no idea how good or how bad a situation can get. Even the Dungeon Master, who knows the story and lays it out for his/her players, has no solid idea where the group will end up. The game is entirely based on each and every player and how they interact with one another and the story. You don't know what John Doe across from you is going to choose to do with their character when a goblin approaches. There's no way to predict anything.
Improves your simple addition skills.
There are so many die. A 20 sided one, a 4 sided one, a 6 sided one, and more. You'll have to roll them and add numbers a whole lot which really puts an edge on your simple addition skills after a while.
The dice are cool.
Seriously, have you seen a 20 sided die? Need I say more?
You can meet some pretty awesome people.
The people I play with are now my best friends. They're all great in so many different ways. There's chaotic ones, calm ones, funny ones, smart ones. They all make playing insanely fun. I wouldn't have really gotten to know any of them if it wasn't for Dungeons and Dragons.
It can become something consistent.
I've been playing with the same group of people for half a year now and I look forward to our campaigns every Sunday.
There are some hilarious scenarios.
Depending on the people you play with there will either be a chorus of laughter or of groans whenever a one is rolled. Rolling a one when attempting to perform most actions is almost always disastrous which results in some of the funniest scenarios. You could get your sword stuck in a table and then have that table catch fire. You could attempt to kill a rat and destroy a wizard's entire workshop in the process. The possibilities are endless and all are hilarious.
