We've all seen it: the horrific pictures on the news, the stories of hospitals being bombed, children dying and people fleeing their country. There is much more news on it here in Europe, but everyone in the world should stop to think about it.
The main problem, I think, is that people can't relate to what's going on. No one in our western countries knows what it's like to have your country in the middle of a real political war.
What really gets on my nerves, however, is how people in countries like England and the United States of America would expect to be given asylum from other countries. There would be outrage on the media if it was English children being killed! And this is the problem: people simply don't care about what's going on in the Middle East. If there wasn't oil there, would our governments care? Probably not.
At the moment in the UK, former Prime Minister Tony Blair is currently facing war criminal charges for the Iraq War. He said that the Iraqi people possessed weapons of mass destruction, but now it's been proven that simply wasn't true and there was no justifiable reason for going to war. Somehow, I don't think he'll be convicted.
What people need to start doing is thinking. What would you feel like if you were in that situation? How can you help the situation out there? We need to also start recognizing the amazing work going on from rescue teams and medics, etc. At least educate yourself about what is going on in the world and think: would you want the world ignoring you if it was your country in distress?
