Everyone has those few friends who begin celebrating Christmas in July. I, however, am not one of those several people. I believe holidays have feelings and if we celebrate one before the other, then we will skip and forget the other holidays. Each holiday deserves decorations and acknowledgment. We can't be celebrating Christmas and Labor Day at the same time.
The first question is WHY?? So, I walked into Walmart yesterday and they already had Christmas decorations up. IN OCTOBER. We have two more holidays until it's actually Christmas time. The funniest part was that right next to the Christmas decorations, they had Halloween costumes. It took my mind a minute to process because I was so confused.
So many of my friends have started playing Christmas music, putting up their Christmas tree, and sharing Christmas movie quotes on social media. In my family, we have a strict “No Christmas music until after Thanksgiving rule.”
If my mom heard me playing Christmas music in my room, she would probably disown me. It doesn’t make the holidays special if people are watching Christmas movies in October. Let each holiday have their shining moment in the sun.
So, to all my friends who celebrate Christmas before December, SLOW YOUR ROLL. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything about Christmas time and when it's December, I'll be quoting Christmas Vacation all month long.
However, let's give each holiday it's moment in the spotlight because remember: holidays have feelings too. As Clark Griswold says, "We're gonna have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas" (But not until after Thanksgiving).
