The Dangers of Becoming Emotionally Invested in Once Upon a Time

Why Once Upon a Time isn't Helping My Stress

Ever since I was little I've loved fairy tales, so, naturally, when I found out about the show Once Upon a Time (OUAT), I was ecstatic I watched the promos, followed the hype, read article after article, and eagerly awaited the premiere.

I remember the premiere night clear as day. I sat patiently in front of my big screen waiting…and that's the night my life ended.

The premiere had me in awe. Never in my life had I seen something remotely close to what OUAT brought to the table. Our favorite fairy tale characters, Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, are all real? Living in a parallel universe? It was all so fantastic.

But, just because you know the stories, do not assume this show is in anyway predictable. We find out that every single fairy tale is interwoven and connect in some way. With the twist and turns this series takes you will never be bored!

I assure you once you start OUAT you will be hooked, and that's where things get complicated.

If you love Disney, run away from this show, it will take your soul, I swear, because, plot twist, Disney owns it. So, not only are we seeing stories of our favorite classic fairy tales, but also the stories of our favorite Disney characters. Elsa, Anna, Merida, Ariel, Belle, Cruella De Vil, and so many more have all been incorporated to the story of this show in some way, and it's beautiful.

As good as this show is it will ruin your life. As a college student I find it very stressful to keep up with show and maintain a decent GPA. How can I study for my test on Monday when I find out that another curse is heading Storybrooke's way on Sunday?

Like I said the stories in this show are all shown to be connected, so can we just talk about the family tree of the main family.

The main character of the show is Emma Swan who is revealed to be the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. She has a son named Henry who was adopted by the Evil Queen, whose sister is later revealed to be The Wicked Witch of the West. Their mother is revealed to be the Queen of Hearts, who is revealed to be the Miller's Daughter from Rumpelstiltskin.

Rumpelstiltskin had a son named Baelfire who is revealed to be Emma's baby daddy. This makes Henry the son of the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, whose adopted mother is the Evil Queen, whose sister is The Wicked Witch of the West, making her his aunt, whose mother is the Queen of Hearts, making Henry's grandparents Snow White, Prince Charming, Rumpelstiltskin, and the Queen of Hearts. Sounds like a fun Thanksgiving….

Now, let me tell you which of our favorite Disney Characters have appeared as if I haven't already told you enough:

Captain Hook, Snow White, Prince Charming, The Evil Queen, Cinderella, Aurora, Prince Phillip, Mulan, Peter Pan, The Darlings, The Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, The Blue Fairy, Jiminy Cricket, Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Hans, Merida, Belle, Ariel, Tinkerbell, The Mad Hatter, Ursula, Cruella De Vil, Robin Hood, Maleficent, and many more. Overwhelming, huh?

The show is in its fifth season now, and without giving too many spoilers, I want to say that this show has been a wild ride and continues to keep me on the edge of my seat. It is the perfect blend of fantasy, mystery, drama, and adventure, and it is truly tantalizing. So all I can say is the show is worth watching, but if you're prone to emotional investment, this show will make you feel things you never thought you'd feel, root for the villains, laugh, cry, slam your laptop shut. It's amazing, and in the process of writing this article I found out that they will be introducing Hercules and Megara in this season.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
