Why My Mom Is Not My Best Friend
Nicole D'Aloisio

If you're lucky, the attachment with your mother lasts long after they disconnect the umbilical cord. She'll provide you with endless opportunities, lessons, and a special kind of love that no one else can supply. Through every laugh, your bond will expand, as memories infinitely grow. It is a relationship you'll cherish dearly over your lifetime. With such a close-knit mother-daughter tie, people assume that my mom is my best friend...but she's way more. I'm blessed for every role she fulfills so flawlessly.

My mom is my life professor.

From cooking lessons to driving advice to hair tips, I'm constantly learning from this woman. She has taught me when to take advantage of sales and how to clean the house until it is spotless. Her tips prepare me for adulthood, leaving an imprint of knowledge that will never fade.

My mom is my cheerleader.

I never feel lonely with her warming support. She is there on the sidelines acknowledging my efforts. I'm wholeheartedly rewarded by her congratulations. It means a lot that I can make her this proud.

My mom is my moral guidance.

As hard as it is to admit sometimes, she is always right. This woman highlights the path I should take. The light at the end of her tunnel is forever the wiser decision.

My mom is my shield.

She strives to protect me from any kind of danger -- from icy roads to heartbreakers. I am scared for the bullet that tries to shoot me down. They'll find out the lengths this mama bear goes to defend her cubs.

My mom is my helping hand.

This woman offers assistance in any way possible. When I'm stuck she pulls me out of the quicksand with no hesitation or question. She is the reason I can still move forward after every setback.

My mom is everything I could hope for in a mother and more. She is bright and enlightening. She's encouraging and sensible. She guards, heals and aids. I love her for all that she is and all that she continues to give me.

When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
