People that follow me on Instagram or even Snapchat know that I like to post pictures of myself wearing high end clothing, trying on decadent jewelry and scarves, and rocking gorgeous shoes. This may not apply to everyone that does the same, but here's what you should know about when I do it.
1) It's a confidence booster
I’m not saying that I’m weak or insecure or anything like that. But walking down Fifth Avenue with a bright red Salvatore Ferragamo shopping bag in my hand containing a new bracelet/choker I bought with my graduation money makes me feel like a total boss. It doesn’t make me feel like I can rule the world. No, no. It makes me feel as if I ALREADY rule the world. So why not share that empowering accessory with my followers?
2) I finally feel free to do so
Up until this year, while I had a strong affinity for luxury brands, but was afraid to outwardly express my interest in them. You see, at my school, no one was really interested in them like I was. I longed to have conversations with a friend talking about what products we liked from which stores. I never really met anyone who shared my obsession (let’s just call it what it is) until this year. I am so grateful for that person because he posts similar things. I finally have someone to relate to and I don’t feel like there’s anything wrong with me anymore.
3) I'm living my dream
I mean, come on. You’re trying to tell me you saw Gossip Girl and never once coveted Blair Waldorf’s colorful coats or watched Scream Queens without wishing you could raid Chanel Oberlin’s two-story closet containing all those furs?
4) It's not to hurt you
Seriously, I’m not doing it to make you feel bad. Trying on clothes I can’t yet afford isn’t a crime, and you can do the same thing if you want. If that’s truly what you’re interested in, go ahead.
5) Some of what you see is rented
For graduation, I wanted a cape dress more than anything for that Daenerys Targaryen- inspired look. However I absolutely would NOT have been allowed to spend $300 on a Halston Heritage dress even though it was my favorite style. So instead I got one from Rent the Runway for around 16 percent of that and then returned it after graduation day.
6) I'm preparing for the future
Listen, one day, when I’m mega-successful, I’ll actually be able to own 90 percent of what I’m snapping. Is it so wrong of me to not want to wait until that very distant future to see what it feels like to wear Sophia Webster butterfly heels or Louis Vuitton low top sneakers?
If you can relate to any of this, or know someone who can, be sure to share because I like hearing about/from other people who also adore couture but may not be able to own as much as they’d like.
