Why Mississippi College Is My Home

I could not imagine a better college to be apart of!

Why Mississippi College Is My Home
Catherine Linnihan

Mississippi College feels like home to me now. This past month and a half has been filled with new friendships, new journeys in life, and seeing how awesome God is! Here are my four reasons why I love Mississippi College!

1. Jesus is number one!

Mississippi College's number one priority is to make Jesus' name known! The vision that Dr. Lee G. Royce has for MC is, "To be recognized as a university known for academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ." I have been overwhelmed with how everyone loves the Lord and wants everyone to be connected somewhere, whether a church, organization, tribe/club, extracurricular activity, or other various things! The day before classes started, we had a campus-wide worship night to worship our Lord and to commit giving our stresses and semester to Him. Who else gets to do that at any other college? Whenever you are on campus, you sense the love and passion that the students here on campus has for the Lord.

2. Everyone treats you like family.

Since moving on campus, I feel like I have known most of my friends for a long time, even though I've only known them for a little over a month. I know most of my friendships that I have made so far are going to be lifelong friendships. If you are sick or not feeling well, somebody is always there for you. Everyone cares about you and loves you just the way you are, no matter how long they have known you. I would not trade my friendships for anything else!

3. The campus is simply breathtaking!

The campus literally takes my breath away every time I go outside! I am always in awe of God's creation when I am outside, no matter what time of the day it is. It could be while I am going to my eight o'clock class in the morning or walking to downtown Clinton at night. Looking at the landscaping of the campus never gets old because it is always gorgeous. Even going outside while I am having a bad day brightens me up.

4. The food is good!

Most upperclassmen had told me beforehand that the Caf food was good at the beginning of the year, but then as the year went it would slowly become not as good. So far, the Caf food has been good! Let me tell you, it is way better than the food from the cafeteria from high school! There is always a variety to choose from. You can get a burger, sandwich, or pizza every day. There is also an entrée, International, and Vegetarian line that serves something different for lunch and supper every day. They always have friend chicken for lunch on Sunday's and Wednesday's, fish for lunch and sometimes supper on Friday's, and they always have something breakfast for supper on Wednesday's at the International line! MC also has a small grill restaurant that you can eat at with your points on campus. It is really good as well. There is also a small deli-like restaurant that you can eat at as well if you just want something simple. There are a couple of coffee shops on the campus, which is handy whenever you have to stay up late to do homework!

Mississippi College is home and I do not know where I be right now if I was not here at MC!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
