Before writing for Odyssey, I never was given the opportunity to write for fun. In classes, professors assign research papers, reflections, movie reviews and anything involving writing that most students don't like. We are never given the opportunity to write about something that interests us, a personal experience or even our favorite Netflix show. Writing for Odyssey gives college students the chance to write about anything they want, whether it's their school, their family or something very personal to them. Being an Odyssey writer lets us have freedom in our writing; we're not confined to a specific research topic or novel. Here are the reasons why I love writing for Odyssey:

1. Freedom.

In school, I never get to write about anything I want. Professors always assign a topic or give us a book to read that we have to write our papers on. Odyssey gives us the freedom to write about anything we want, allowing us to express ourselves.

2. Publish my own writing.

Odyssey is a great website to get work published on. Almost all college students read articles from here, and it's a great way to get your thoughts out there. There's nothing better than seeing the number of shares go up each week.

3. Experience.

I am an English major, but I never was given the chance to write about whatever I wanted in my classes. Odyssey provides college students with the opportunity to gain experience in writing for something that is unstructured where I do not have to follow a specific topic or assignment sheet.

4. Improve my writing skills.

Throughout college, many students struggle with writing papers for classes, especially the editing process. I myself have gone to the writing center on campus several times, just to do better on my papers. By writing for Odyssey, I am now improving my writing skills. I am submitting weekly articles, which I edit myself before turning them in. Writing for Odyssey has given me the chance to accept constructive criticism from editors and to understand the writing, editing and publishing process.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
