Why I Love My College Dining Hall

A List of Everything I Love SO Dearly About My College Dining Experience

Why I Love My College Dining Hall

If you're like me, you probably have a lot to say about your college dining hall. So much, in fact, that you can barely even put it into to words, which is why I have decided to do it for you.

So, sit back and relax as I give you a rundown of everything I love about my college dining hall.

1. I am always greeted so nicely.

I can just tell how much the person taking my card loves their job, and I just feel so welcome when he/she snatches my ID out of my hand, swipes it, and says "next."

2. The lines.

I just love coming into the dining hall after a long lecture, and having to wait in a line that's almost as long as my class was. Especially when I'm trying to grab food in between classes. It's like Disney World!

3. The variety.

The dining hall has so many options to choose from. I walk in and I get to decide, "Man, what do I want to try and force down today?"

4. They serve some pretty interesting dishes.

Never in my life did I think I'd be eating "buffalo chicken mac and cheese" off of a hibachi grill, bbq pork served with cheese over mashed potatoes, sauerkraut soup, or some form of eggplant and turkey hash mixture. I seriously can't even make this up. They're so creative.

5. The portions.

If I were to say there was anything I loved more than waiting in lines, or the quality of the food I receive, it would have to be the quantity of food I receive. I love when I finally get to the end of the line and they give me two chicken nuggets. They're so considerate rationing out the food like that. You never know when we could fall into another depression.

6. Navigating.

With all of the people and tables, getting around the dining hall is always so easy. I never have to worry about dropping my plate or drinks.

7. Finding a place to sit

I love walking around forever to find the perfect table. There are always ample places to choose from. Especially when they close down one side of the dining hall.

8. The hours.

I just love that the dining hall is only open until 8pm on weekdays, when people have classes or rehearsals that run until 10pm. It was very well thought out. Almost as well thought out as their idea to have it close at 7pm on the weekends, because we definitely would eat dinner earlier on a Saturday. Did I mention that they open later on weekends, as well? Who needs breakfast anyway?

9. When you run out of dining dollars.

I love that the dining hall is always available to me when I can't afford to eat anywhere else. It is such a relief to be able to come in and enjoy what they have to offer. It's wonderful.

10. It only costs about $2000.

I love how all of this can be mine for the simple payment of $2000, and how worth every penny it is. That is such a fair price for the quality of what I am receiving. So generous.

But seriously...

This is everything I love about my college dining hall, and everything you probably love about yours, as well. The workers, the lines, the food, the hours, the cost…it is all so worth it in the end.

I love it all so much.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
