9 Reasons Why I Love Being In An A Capella Group

One of my favorite college experiences thus far has been being involved in a capella. I can’t thank my group enough for welcoming me in and being the wonderful, silly and caring people that they are. Here are some of the many reasons I love being in an a capella group!

1. They’re my family.

An a capella group is an instant pack of best friends. I have truly found my home with them. I love, love, love these people whom I can truly call my family to the moon and back.

2. Rehearsal is the best stress reliever.

You might think that 10:30 p.m. until 12 a.m. rehearsals are a pain, but once I get to rehearsal, all of my cares and stresses of the day fade away. I often arrive at rehearsal exhausted from a long day of classes and homework, but once I’m singing and laughing with my friends, I’m wide awake and full of energy! When I’m singing with them, there’s no place I’d rather be.

3. We're very silly together.

We’ve actually gotten to the point at which we are no longer able to make eye contact with each other while singing because if we look at each other, we just burst into laughter!

4. I’ve learned lots.

I’ve gained a lot of confidence in myself through being involved in a capella. I’ve been challenged to learn songs in one day; I’ve learned how to arrange music; and I’ve also just learned a lot about how to be a good group member.

5. The walk.

It’s not far to go from our rehearsal space to our dorms, but when the freshmen take our walk back to Freshman Land after rehearsal, it’s for sure one of my favorite parts of the evening. Our little freshie bonding time is everything. We're the cutest. I think I’ve laughed harder on some of these walks than I ever have in my life.

6. Group traditions.

Every a cappella group has traditions that are passed down through the generations. We’ve got lots of silly dance moves that have been ingrained into our songs, warm-ups with our names in them, a signature drink, an initiation ritual and many other fun traditions that come with being a part of an a capella group.

7. We're always there for each other.

It's so comforting to have a group of people that's always got each other's backs in good times and bad times. We always know how to cheer each other up and will support each other always.

8. Super fun parties.

There really is no such thing as a boring a capella party!

9. Singing with them is the absolute best!

There really is no better feeling than singing with my a capella group. I'm at my happiest when I'm making great music with my friends!

I feel so lucky… the luckiest to have such an amazing group of people to “jen jah joh” and “dum da doo” with every week. They have made my college experience so incredibly special. I love my a capella group with all my heart!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
