Why Logic's New Song Is The Song We Needed

A blunt, real, and incredible song

You may have heard, Logic has a new song. This song collaborates with Alessia Cara and Khalid. The first time I heard this song it shocked me how dark it was. I thought "well this got intense real fast." Then after listening to it thoroughly a few times instead of just mindlessly listening to it in the shower, I was very impressed. Honestly, it's about time someone came out with a song like this.

Just from looking at the title of the song, you might wonder what the phone number is and why it's titled this phone number. Well, when you google the song title the phone number is for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. He has already hit a home run just with that title, why? By doing so if you didn't know that number you are probably going to google that, just by that action someone is already more aware. Someone now in the world has more knowledge and who knows who they could help or even if they may need it some day for themselves.

The beginning is also a great opening for the song, especially when he says "who can relate?" Sometimes finding the words to express how someone may feel are hard to find. Maybe there are a few people out in the world that feel out of their minds and like they aren't living a life that they are even aware of. So when he asks that question, maybe that sticks out to someone who feels that way. That confronts those feelings for someone and starts a dialogue I think.

After is where it gets a bit heavy. The lyrics say "I don't wanna be alive, I just wanna die today, I just wanna die." This part is a little scary just because I think it can trigger someone. However, confronting those feelings are good because it's better to be aware and by the end of the song he fixes those lyrics to be something more positive, possibly fixing that trigger for someone.

From then he explains why he is feeling this way. I think he covers the feelings of feeling alone perfectly. For some of us, it's really hard to self-validate yourself. It's also really hard to feel important when you feel so alone and it seems like nobody is taking the time to listen to you.

The only thing I sort of disagree with in this part is the part where he talks about needed to be saved by someone. I believe help is necessary when you feel suicidal, but I don't think a decision to be alive should ever be dependant on someone else.

The chorus changes from that dark part to "I want you to be alive, you don't gotta die today, you don't gotta die," and finishes with "now lemme tell you why." This is where Alessia Cara comes in. The words in her part describe relief. It literally feels like the first breath after being underwater like she says in the song. After you've been under any type of intense feeling and get to let go of that, it's the best feeling you can have. Finding that help and feeling like everything is actually okay and right in the world, is euphoric. This part to me is the remedy to the dark lines in the beginning. The sort of there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that's why we should be alive and we have to keep going.

Then as the song starts coming to a closing he says "I finally wanna be alive, I don't wanna die today, I don't wanna die." So as we finish the journey through this song we come full circle. From wanting to die, seeing the light in the darkness, to finding those reasons good ones to keep going and being alive. I love this because it takes you through an episode of what someone may go through.

In the last part what I got from it was pain isn't the same for everyone and there is a difference between physical pain and mental pain. It's all different and we all feel different things. Also how the lane to recovering from these feelings is a lone road that we must walk alone, and that it isn't going to be easy but we have to keep going. That also to heal such feelings you need to want to recover. Then the song ends with "I don't even wanna die anymore." Offically closing the song.

This song is so heavy and goes on such a journey through the whole thing and I'm really happy it does. I think if someone wants to cover a topic like suicide, they need to be blunt and not romanticize it. This song is amazing and the world needed this. I think people need this and I truly believe it'll help someone. Logic, hats off to you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
