Why Joining A Sorority Was The Best Decision I've Made

I remember the summer before coming to UGA and being so scared to sign up for sorority recruitment. All I knew was that it was going to be stressful. It ended up being so worth it, though. When placed in a situation like sorority recruitment, second-guessing yourself and your decisions is all too common. Everything seems high stakes and one bad decision could end your world, but that's not true. I remember being told throughout recruitment "trust the process." At the time this remark was more of an annoyance than a reassurance. It's hard to trust a process that seems so uncertain. Looking back, however, I ended up being exactly where I needed to be.

Bid day was such a blur, but apart I can remember so clearly is flipping my card and reading "Alpha Gamma Delta," and then all the hysterical screams that rang through Tate Grand Hall. It was so exciting, crazy, scary, and I had no idea what was going on. When we hopped off that bus and confetti rained down in the front lawn of the Alpha Gam house, I knew I was where I belonged.

I was a little nervous about the adjustment period of being in a sorority. Finding your people can be difficult, but it really didn't take that long for me to find mine, and I can truly say they are my best friends. Not only has being in a sorority brought me to my people, but it has also exposed me to so many new experiences and opportunities. I have met so many new amazing people and have been provided so many ways to become a leader in the community. I definitely would not be as involved on campus if it wasn't for the encouragement and resources my sorority has given me. I've also noticed being in a sorority has given me so much confidence. This may sound cheesy, but my outlook on life has really changed. I am more optimistic than ever and am constantly inspired by the success of the girls in my sorority. There are definitely stereotypes of sororities that I've learned aren't true at all. I've felt so uplifted and proud since I have been in Alpha Gam. I can't wait to see what the next three years bring as an Alpha Gam.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
