Goals are so important. In the world we live in today, we have the mentality that good things will just come our way. With goals, it makes things easier to achieve. I've found five reasons why it's important to have goals and achieve them.
1. Goals are personal.
When you set a goal for yourself, you are placing yourself at a standard. You are telling yourself that you have the faith, endurance and perseverance to reach this goal, no matter how long or how big of a goal it is. It's something that's just for you. This is your goal. This is a task you have given yourself and you know you can achieve it.
2. It gives you something to do.
Goals give you something to accomplish. Everyone has little goals for their day. For example, getting out of bed in the morning (this is still something I applaud myself for doing every day.) Knowing that each day, each step you take gets you one step closer to obtaining your goals.
3. You're able to look back and see you've accomplished something.
There's nothing like crossing something off my list or checking a box that says I've completed something. When I look back on my week and see all the homework I've done, all the exams I've taken, all the projects and papers I've turned in, it gives me a great sense of accomplishment. I can clearly see all the work I've done and how (as frustrating as my homework may be at times) every assignment gets me one step closer to completing my goals of finishing the semester, and eventually, graduating college.
4. The path you take to reach your goal is going to be unique.
Everyone you meet at college all have the same goal as you: to graduate college. However, we're all going to graduate at different times, at a different pace, and all with different majors. Even people in your major might not take all the same classes with you at the same time you do. This makes the path you take completely unique!
5. Goals are something you can achieve with people.
It's wonderful when you can say you did something all by yourself.
However, there's nothing like the sense of accomplishment you gain when you can say you completed a goal with someone. It's completely okay to reach out for help when you're not able to do something on your own. Tutors, professors, classmates, all of these people are here to help you get through the next semester(s) you have in college.
Goals are an excellent thing to achieve! I love completing goals and helping others achieve their goals. Working together, or working alone, we can get anything done. Hopefully, these reasons have helped inspire you to start setting goals for yourself, or start to help others around you achieve their goals!
