Everyone has a little part of them that consists of character names, super powers, and oh-so-wonderful OTPs. That little part is what I like to call nerd zone.
It’s the area that houses the many fandoms of the world and all of the random facts and information that tag along with it.
Supernatural, Teen Wolf, The Flash, Arrow, the Avengers, the Justice League, etc. - all of these amazing creations, and more, are what makes our fangirl hearts flutter and our voices go higher.
Letting this part of yourself show is never a bad thing, in fact, it’s a good thing! Being able to express what you love and showing other people how great it can be is what makes us unique, and no one wants to be average in the world of fandoms.
Personally, I will fall over and start squealing the second a certain show called Teen Wolf pops up in a conversation or on my Tumblr feed. Oh, the things that show does to my heart.
Being able to feel that rush of energy, that big smile on your face, those little tingles you get in your toes that make you want to jump up and down, that’s what makes a nerd so special.
You deserve to feel special!
The problem is that so many people degrade others who express this side of them, they tell them that showing their passions and their favorite past times is a bad thing. Since when did gushing over a cool show ever become so embarrassing that we refuse to admit that we like the content we’re watching?
In a perfect world, we would be able to sing show tunes at the top of our lungs, and recite Shakespeare monologues whenever we wished. We would be able to share our favorite shows with our friends without a doubt, and jump around in anime and band t-shirts with pride.
Sadly, this isn’t a perfect world. There is always going to be someone around the corner making you feel uncomfortable, or feel like you don’t belong.
The thing is, that doesn’t matter.
Being different, being yourself, and being in a whole different world than those judgement-driven people is a hundred times better than sitting in a desk at school and not thinking creatively at all. Then again, if that’s your style, then go for it.
The next time you have the urge to let your inner nerd out, do it. By doing so, you’re not only letting yourself free, but you’re also introducing a whole new side of you to the world, and who knows what that can bring.
