In the past few weeks, my interest for Adam Sandler movies has regrettably peaked, and have shamefully have become my dirty little secret. So for those of you out there who have not experienced the shame of watching all of Sandler's work, I have a made a list of the best and worst Adam Sandler films.
The Good:
1. "Funny People" (2009)
Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill. Do you need another reason to watch this movie? Okay fine, George, a famous comedian diagnosed with leukemia uses his what he thinks is his last few months reconnecting with what made him happy before the fame.
2. "The Wedding Singer" (1998)
I'll just say it; Drew Berrymore is the best thing that never happened to Sadler. He becomes so much more likable and less annoying whenever she graces the screen with him. 80's music, tacky fashion and puffy hair? I think yes.
3. "50 First Dates" (2004)
Is it creepy that Henry tricks a disabled woman into loving him? Yes, but try not to overthink it because despite it's disturbing overtones, the film has some chuckle-worthy moments. Besides, Drew Berrymore and Adam Sandler have an undeniable on-screen chemistry that just works.
4. "Billy Madison" (1995)
This movie made Sandler household name of the late 90's and early 2000's. Loved by the people and panned by the critics, an overprivileged man whose father paid for his degree has to go back and pass each grade in less than two weeks. Ridiculous plot, fantastic outcome. The real star of this movie is Bradley Whitford, in his pre-west wing era, the villain thing really works for him.
5. "Happy Gilmore" (1996)
The most exciting thing to happen to the world of golf, since, well the sport was invented. Another ridiculous plot? You know it! It wouldn't be an Adam Sandler movie without an over the top circumstance that somehow always put him in the underdog role. What can I say, it's funny. Sandler screams a lot, but if you've watched any of his movies you should know that by know.
6. "Big Daddy" (1999)
Pre-Riverdale, baby Cole Sprouse is the cutest thing on the planet when his mom literally dumps him on the steps of her presumed baby daddy. Long story short, Sadler does the creeping thing again and basically kidnaps the kid and makes the world believe that he is the dad. Most of Sandler's work involves a moral aspect that you'll have to ignore to enjoy the movie.
The Bad:
1. "Just Go with It" (2011)
I hate to do this to my girl Jen, but this movie blows. Yes, Sandler excels in roles that makes him a creep, but his character in this film takes the cake by praying on single women and manipulating them into sex. How a someone convinced Aniston to star in blocksuckster is beside me.
2. "Click" (2006)
A modern rip off of a Christmas Carol, a lousy dad, needs a TV remote's help to become a better human. Now I get it; this is arguably Sandler's most well-known movie, but it spends the majority of the movie trying to convince you that watching the family dog hump a stuffed animal is funny. It's not. There some cute scenes in the film but it doesn't make up for the hour of your life that is wasted.
3. Every movie not listed.
Take my word for it. I've watched them and suffered through them all; You're better off not seeing any of his other movies, believe me.
Honorable Mentions:
1. "Grown Ups" (2010)
It's funny in spite of Sandler. That is all.
To the five Adam Sandler fans out there, please explain to me what you see in him because I don't get it. Seriously, why does he keep making movies?
