Father's Day means celebrating your dad. Dads get a lot of flack for their flair for the dorky, and confusion in regards to modern technology. But dads are good for so many things. So here's to you, dad.
Growing up, there were so many things that your parents did for you. Some things were always mom's territory, but some things were all for dad. Dad was always there for a dip in the pool, there to teach you how to squirt water out of your hand or throw you far into the air. Sometimes playing with my dad would lead to roughhousing, or a dangerous situation, but I always knew he was looking out for me.
My dad was always there to show me his favorite music and movies from growing up. Raising me liking the same things he does, and making sure that I'm a well-rounded individuals. Sometimes I may have been a bit young for the movie, and the lyrics of the song may have not been age appropriate, but all in all my dad's taste in music and movies made me who I am today.
Dads give the best piggyback and shoulder rides, hands down. Again, some of the activities played with dad could be a little dangerous, but he always was clever and innovative when it came to new ways to entertain you. I remember being pushed around the carpet in a laundry basket for hours on end.
I could always count on dad to teach you the rules of life. I learned about fixing things and playing sports as well as the fundamental skills of riding a bike and driving a car. My dad was always patient and willing to assist with any problem I encountered, and he always made sure I don't have to deal with anything I can't handle.
I always looked forward to day trips with my dad, whether it be to the grocery store or the auto shop. Every trip with dad was an adventure and always involved some yummy treat or cool fact learned. Helping my dad be my dad always made me feel so important and special. Growing up only knowing half of what my parents did for me, I always felt better knowing I could help out in any way. Being my dad's go to for grocery shopping and running errands gave me that important feeling.
My dad was always driving me to visit colleges and take me to school when I slept through my alarm and missed the bus. I never realized he was putting his life on hold to help me further mine. From the small things like driving out late at night to grab the family ice cream or the big things, like taking me to Justin Bieber concerts and sitting through the whole thing, dads get the job done. We'd be lost without them. Hi lost, I'm dad.
