Going to college is an essential part of growing up and like most kids, I dreamed of going away to college with my friends and away from winter weather. However, after seeing how outrageous the tuition prices are, that idea of going away for college quickly vanished. Although I didn't go away for college I don't regret it; in fact, I feel that staying home for college is one of the best decisions I have made so far.
Staying at home for college still gives me the freedom to be my own person and be responsible for myself and it's a great feeling to be in charge of your own success. I still have a lot of the same responsibilities as someone who went away to college; I have to pay bills, work and keep up my grades up among other things.
Also, it definitely saved my wallet in a bunch of ways. I don't have out-of-state tuition to worry about, so later in life, I won't have as much debt to worry about. I feel like there was no pressing need for me to go away for college when everything I needed was right here at home.
Lastly, my family is a huge part of my life and not having them around would just feel really strange for me. Overall, I think that staying home for college, although not meant for everyone, is something I will never regret.
