Why I'm Choosing To Say Happy Holidays

Less Hate, More Acceptance

Why I'm Choosing To Say Happy Holidays
Chatelaine

Lately, there has been talk about whether or not we should say phrases such as "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays". I'm choosing to say Happy Holidays. If you're a die-hard conservative who cares more about the Christian perspective of the Holidays, I encourage you to read this. Yes, Christianity is the dominant religion in the world, but there are other religions too. As well as other holidays throughout the year.

Wouldn't it make more sense if we said "Happy Holidays" year round? Every month except for August has a holiday on the calendar. We only seem to associate the term "Happy Holidays" during the end-of-the-year holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. So, what's the problem? I am seeing more and more of my friends and acquaintances on social media saying how, "It should be Merry Christmas!" Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are hundreds of other religions in the world besides Christianity, right? I am choosing to say Happy Holidays in respect of the many other different religions that encompass America and the world. By saying Happy Holidays, I also give respect to the many different holidays the United States celebrates every year.

From someone who is a practicing Christian, I believe God loves everyone. The homosexuals, the African Americans, the Latinos, the Russians, the Muslims, the Jews, the Hindus, including the straight white people. I am not contradicting myself by saying Happy Holidays, because the God I serve includes everyone. Call me a liberal, an entitled brat, a deviant monster. I am simply identifying as open, accepting, and warm. The world needs less hate and narrow-minded individuals, and more love and acceptance. Love is so powerful it causes the blind to see, the lame to walk, and the dumb to talk. Love allows everyone to meet an agreement. Acceptance means no more homeless children, and no more teenagers committing suicide. People are dying at an alarming rate by way of killing themselves.

By choosing to say "Happy Holidays", I am looking at the bigger picture and subsequently broadening my perspective. Since I have started college, I have noticed things about myself that I never thought would come to life if I had not decided to become a college student after graduating high school. I am more open, and I see the world in a different view everyday. Instead of blindly trusting someone who eventually will stab me in the back, I can tell by the tone of their voices whether they are genuine or not. By exercising my choice to say "Happy Holidays", I am promoting everyone including Christians to have a superb Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. As well as Valentine's Day, Fourth of July, and Halloween.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
