With Fashion Week hot and heavy in the Big Apple, my procrastination level has only increased. Homework has long since been forgotten about, along with my usual ways of distracting myself. Instead, I’ve been rapidly scrolling through Instagram, Snapchat, and my favorite style blogs in order to see anything Fashion Week related. Even though I love college, the high profile NYFW has made me want to pick up my bags and ditch school for a few days. Here’s why I’d rather be at Fashion Week:
Everyone looks like they’re having so much fun. Don’t let their blank, emotionless stares fool you. The ladies graced with the opportunity to sit in the front row for shows like Nicole Miller, Givency, and Badgley Mischka most likely couldn’t contain their excitement. Even though, in many photographs, the press posted young fashionistas looking bored, deep down they were just as excited as we all were.
The interactive showcases. Kate Spade’s show definitely stood out to me because it wasn’t a typical runway show. Instead, models, decked out in the designer label, were placed on pedestals. This gave guests the opportunity to walk through rows and rows of fashion models and witness the girly and preppy creations of Kate Spade. The photographs that surfaced, following their show were beautiful. Instead of pictures of the models far back on the runway, Kate Spade posted close ups of their beautifully designed accessories and jewelry, along with their detailed clothing. To guests, this provided a more intimate experience that I wish I could have been a part of.
Celebrity Sightings. During New York Fashion Week, my Instagram seemed unstoppable. Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, and Jessica Alba were all spotted at a show or two. They posted the pictures to prove it. Alex Morgan, US soccer star made an appearance at the Nicole Miller show while Kylie Jenner and Bella Thorne acted like long lost best friends at Vera Wang. Not only did their Twitter and Instagram accounts proclaim rave reviews and gratitude, but it also showcased their own outfits and appearances.
Predicted Future Trends. Apparently the nautical trend is back in, along with big bold stripes, off the shoulder ensembles, and bright orange. Even though I can’t afford most of the high price tagged items on the runway, doesn’t mean that Forever21 won’t be creating similar pieces for one tenth of the price. I am definitely looking forward to breaking the bank,15 pieces at a time.
Your Favorite Designers. Fashion week wouldn’t be all that special if you didn’t get to stalk some of your favorite designers looks. Snapchat has been super helpful with stalking this year since they’ve added a live story including the best of the best looks. Ralph Lauren Polo killed the runway this year, Betsey Johnson is making a comeback, and Nanette Lepore made beautiful dresses that I hope some day I will be able to afford. With the ease of the internet, it was really easy to pick our your favorite looks.
Even though I didn’t make it this year to NYFW, there is always next. Let the countdown begin!
