Why High School Teachers Are So Important

So you may begin reading this thinking, "Why the hell is this girl writing an article about something we take for granted? I mean yeah, all teachers are important, duh?" While this is true, have you ever really thought about HOW important they are though? Teachers in general, from the time we are old enough to stand on our own two feet, help us. We are surrounded by men and women that influence us. People that worked hard to pass their exams, to get their certifications, and to spend the next 50 years spending most of their lives touching the hearts (and brains) of the students they come across. That is a whole lot of dedication.

My high school teachers definitely influenced me the most. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying all other teachers aren't equally as important because trust me they are. The teacher you had in kindergarten is just as important as your chemistry teacher in high school. What I am saying though, is that we can take so much more from our high school teachers, not even just education wise. We are more developed and our brains can actually grasp the life lessons that they are teaching us. I mean yes, for the most part they do rack our brains and make sure we study (or we fail). But on top of that, we make lifelong memories with these people. As students, we learn about their lives and our teachers learn about ours. We share stories. They teach us so much more than what we would learn just from reading a book. In high school, we learn (additional) morals and how to act in certain situations, a topic that sometimes can't be answered at home. We can talk to them about things we don't even share with our parents. We talk to them more than our parents about our future plans. They help us plan out our steps after high school. They help us define our likes and dislikes of certain subjects. They can give us their tough love because they know that we all have the potential to be great one day. They treat you with the respect that you give them. They stay late after school to help you figure out your life a little more than before.

We are faced with different issues at different times of our lives. It just so happens that our high school teacher jump aboard our sinking indecisive ship just as it is going down. They help us through what are the (arguably) second best times of our lives.

Moral of the story is that our teachers are much more than JUST teachers. They turn into our friends. People that we can grab coffee or drinks with years after graduate. A special thank you to all of my high school teachers.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
