If you scroll through your explore page on Instagram, you're bound to find at least 10 videos of someone doing lettering or calligraphy per 100 or so posts. It's all the rage right now to make all your home decor quotes in a cool font with pretty cursive letters that have bumps and are all uneven. However, when was the last time you received a handwritten letter? When was the last time you sent a thank you note? Here are some reasons we should not only follow the trend of lettering, but keep handwriting going all together.
1. It's sentiment in the truest form
Receiving a letter is the nicest thing. Think about it: you're having a bad day, you're dragging yourself back to your dorm room or apartment. You think, 'I have no mail, but I might as well check." As you turn the key and the little silver door opens, a letter! Someone you love sent something just for you! Day: made. Love letters are pretty sentimental, too, if you're into that.
2. The feeling of a new pen is just wonderful
This is pretty dorky, but have you ever felt the glide of a new pen on a thick stack of paper? Oh my god, you'll never be the same! If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's time you go to the office supply store, whichever one exists in your region, and buy a pack of pens and a new notebook. Go to town.
3. You remember things better
Writing things down helps you remember them, so while Google Calendar is nice, you'll be more self sufficient in remembering things if you write them down in a planner.
4. It can be saved
If you send a letter to your mom, chances are she'll have it forever. Sure, you can screenshot a text, but there's something so poetic about missing someone and being able to hold a real, ripped-open envelope in your hand with their handwriting stuffed inside.
5. You can improve your lettering, if that's your focus!
If you're into the lettering scene, handwriting things like reminders or notes can help you keep your familiarity with your pen, thus increasing your skill level with lettering!
There are so many reasons to keep writing, as these are just a few.
