Well, it's quite obvious that many women use Halloween as a night to show off their bodies and dress up like Playboy bunnies. Search Halloween costumes for women and the majority of outfits consist of limited clothing with a "sexy" component to it. From tiny nurse outfits to revealing law enforcement officers, just about any costume can be sexualized and many women take advantage of that and use Halloween as an excuse to dress up- more like dress down.
Being in college and going out on Halloween, I have never seen more women disrespect themselves with their choice of clothing. I have never seen so many Playboy bunnies in the same place at the same time. I've never seen more skin shown. And honestly, it's disturbing. Why use a night where you can be as creative and as funny as you want to be something that takes little to no effort and that any woman can be?
When your outfit consists of a bodysuit with a bunny tail while your chest and butt hang out excessively, you are not doing anyone any favors. Sure, you'll get looks and catcalls and maybe boost your ego a bit, but making men lust after you to affirm yourself is not the way to go. You have a lot more to offer the world than just your body.
You have the opportunity to be witty without saying a word or to be the most hilarious person in the room. You can really be whatever you want and you can do that while clothed. Don't let this culture shape your decisions. The norm of stripping down is a lot less fun than it seems.
Last Halloween, while all of my friends were good looking, sexy rockstars, I chose to be the fat suit wearing hobo and let me tell you, I got a lot more attention and compliments than any of my friends. It's a lot more fun to reveal more of my intellect side than my body. Do yourself a favor and be something other than scandalous for Halloween.
