Why Going To College Down South Was The Best Decision

Trying to decide where to attend college is a big decision. Some people have known where they wanted to go to college their whole life, however, I was not one of those people. I applied to many colleges all over, but never thought that I would end up going to school down South. As someone who has lived in the city their whole life, that is all that I’ve known. Don’t get me wrong I love the city, but I knew that I wanted to experience something knew. Deciding to go to school down South was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Going to school out of state is an experience in itself. You get to explore a different state, and see things that you might not have ever seen if you didn’t choose to go to an out of state college. You especially get to experience new things that the North cannot offer. For instance, Bojangles and Cookout. Yes, Wawa will always be my favorite, but that doesn’t mean that the food down here isn’t just as good. Fried chicken Friday’s is totally a thing as well.

The weather is also another reason why college in the South is the best decision. Who wants to walk to class in the snow? I certainly don’t. This also means occasionally skipping class for beach days. Living twenty minutes from the beach can certainly have its perks.

Going to a Division 1 college and getting to watch your school kick some a** is always a good thing. Everyone gets pumped for their school killing their rivals or just any opponent in any game. Those awesome Saturday morning tailgates are always thrown to support your school as well. Let’s also not forget that when your school wins you should expect the best parties to go down that night.

You’re always meeting new people. If you go to school down South there’s a good possibility that a lot of people you meet are in fact an out of state student just like you. You meet so many people from all over the country that could help give you new opportunities in the future, or just give you some awesome new friends that you’ll have for life. You also follow them all over social media because in college it’s like we’re all one big family.

Going to school down South has really opened my eyes to the endless possibilities out there. I also get to brag about how awesome my school is when people ask without any shame, which is always fun. I was also able to start a new chapter, and experience the best time of my life so far. Going to school down South has given me an opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone, and meet people that I might not have met if it wasn’t for choosing this college. It gives you that feeling that if you can go to school out of state than you can do anything, which is why I am so thankful that I go to school down South.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
